No Roof Leak

I just got a call form a awesome real estate agent. He was out at our new house with a contractor to check on the roof leak that was found during our home inspection. It turns out that there is not a leak at all. There just is not enough ventilation up there. To fix it, we are going to install some gable vents to dry out the attic. I will take a $500 fix any day...and the seller pays for it. Aces!

Obama 2008

With John Edwards dropping out of the 2008 presidential race today, I have decided to throw my support behind Barack Obama. Clinton is just too divisive in this race...and in general. She will bring out the Republican base like no one else could.

Now, I move on to Super Tuesday as an Obama supporter.

An Unfortunate Address

The actual address of the First Baptist Church of Sylva, NC (where I work) is actually 669 West Main St. As you can tell from the bent up 9 on the address marker, this is not the first time someone has pulled this prank.

I have to admit, as unoriginal as this prank is, it did give me a quick chuckle...not that I condone vandalism :)

Random NC Facts

Two interesting and random facts about North Carolina from the NCDOT:

1. There are more state maintained roads in North Carolina than any other state except Texas.

2. There are more than 6 million registered vehicles in North Carolina.

There are only about 9 million people in the entire state. Guess everyone has a car.

Our Old House in Good Hands

Getting out of our lease got a lot easier and we have a friend moving into the area to boot. Our friend Carol will be moving into our old house as she is taking a job at the Waynesville Mountaineer newspaper. It will be great because we can visit her and our old house and she will be closer than she was in Spartanburg so we will see more of her and her boyfriend Matt now. Win-Win.

Repair List

Last night we met with our real estate agent and submitted our repair list for the seller of the new house. The two largest things on the list were fixing a few small leaks in the roof and re-graveling the upper 20 yards of the driveway (the rest is concrete). Lauren and I are confident that the list will be addressed to our satisfaction but if not, we can still afford to do the repairs ourselves.

New Record Low

So this morning we set a new record low since we moved up here from Charlotte. Four degrees. That is just insane.

Yesterday we were supposed to pick up about an inch of new snowfall. As you can see from the photos below, the snow started before we left the new house. We ended up getting about an inch but oddly enough when we went to Asheville last night to celebrate our friend Avery's engagement there was nothing on the ground. I guess that is what the extra 1000 feet of elevation will get you...

More Photos of the New House

Here are some more photos of our new house. We went out today and had the home inspection done and met with the seller. He is super nice...originally from the Czech Republic. There were a few minor problems and some leaks in the roof. Nothing that will prevent us from buying though. For the complete photo album, click HERE.

Things are Going Smoothly

Things are progressing nicely on buying the home. This Saturday we are going out to meet the current owner and do the home inspection. Evidently the current owner was a bit of a gadget hound and built in a lot of cool features to the home. More on that after Saturday...

We will close on Saturday February 16th. That weekend I will begin moving some stuff over and painting...but we will not fully move in until that next weekend. Our friend Theresa will be helping us and my parents might also be able to come up to see the new house and get us settled in.

We Got the House!

So we got the house! There was another offer on the house when we decided to put in our offer so we made sure we would get it by offering $500 more than they were asking for...even then it is still a steal!

Here is an additional picture. This is the view from our master bedroom's balcony! We love this place!

First thing we will do when we move is in begin the process of updating the lighting, appliances and repainting. We close on Feb. 15th and will probably begin moving in that weekend.

Our New House?

Lauren and I went out with our real estate agent to look at this house about 20 min south of Waynesville and fell in love with it. Why? Check out this video tour...

Beats driving down I-77 any day! See if you can count how many times I say "like" - haha.

Sick of Being Busy...or Just Sick?

I have gotta tell you...I have just about had it with this sickness. I have been sick in one form or another since the day after Christmas. Lost a lot of time at work because of it but luckily I have quite a few sick days saved up. Lauren was also sick, a lot sicker than I, but she is pretty much over it now. Mine? It just keeps trucking along.

Got my replacement Sirius satellite radio receiver today and put it in the truck to replace the unit I purchased over Christmas that was missing a button. I also had one hell of a busy day...but all is not lost. Do you know what the best part of Thursday is? Friday comes after it :)

Obama Can Give A Speech

I am still an Edwards man...but you have to admit, this guy can deliver one hell of a stirring speech. The thing is that, though it is an inspiring speech, there is not much to it. He never gives specifics. Seems to me that is the cornerstone of his speeches. If Edwards turns out to not be a viable candidate, who then? Richardson has done so poorly he is pulling out tomorrow...ugg...well, anyone is better than Bush...even McCain.

Clinton Wins?

Boy...I did not see this coming. I thought for sure Obama was going to run away with it tonight in New Hampshire. Oh well, guess you can't always believe the polls.
