Painting the house

Here are three pictures of the work we are doing on the house. The first shows the color of the walls when we started. We then do one coat of oil based primer, then two coats of standard latex paint. It is still a work in progress but you get the idea...

It's Ours!

Well, it's ours! I closed for Lauren and I today (She is in Vermont) and got the keys to our new house and could not be more thrilled. I am writing this post from my new office. It is a bit bare right now...but we will take care of that soon.

Power, Water, Internet...now I just need to get the Satellite installed. That comes Monday.

Not All THAT Bad

So if things continue the way they are currently going, I think my earlier prediction that it is going to be Obama vs. McCain will come true.

The bad news? It will be harder to beat McCain vs. Romney. The good news? Obama does better against McCain in polling than Clinton. Also, the worst case situation: A McCain presidency, is not all THAT bad...sure beats eight years of Bush.

The Fair Tax and Super Tuesday Thoughts

Here is the problem with the "fair tax"...it is not fair at all. Paying a 20-30% sales tax is more of a burden the more poor you are. They say there would be exemptions but these checks would be doled out at the end of the each month. Poor people usually don't save money or budget. They live dollar to dollar. Many would see this check as a monthly windfall and blow it all at once. How about a tax exemption card? If you give a tax exempt card to the poor, it is basically a branding that says these people are poor. Unacceptable. The tax code needs fixing, but this is not the way to do it.

I am sorry, but if the Republicans are smart, they will nominate John McCain. Mike Huckabee will loose in a landslide even to Hillary.

I know the talking heads of conservative radio hate McCain, but the country is not happy with the Republicans right now and McCain is the only candidate that has a chance to win.

Personally, I believe the government should be FOR the people and BY the people. ALL PEOPLE. I get nervous when any candidate begins campaigning on their religious beliefs. This country has had a secular government from its inception. I would prefer to keep it that way. (My 2 cents)

Now, for the Democrats, they would be smart to nominate Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton would bring out the Republican base like no one else could. The "Wal-Mart" Republicans who usually don't vote would come out in mass to vote against Hillary. Independents and moderates (and even some moderate Republicans) like Obama and you can't win an election without the independents.

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I am a registered NC democrat who supports Obama.

Closer to Move-In

We are about two weeks out from taking possession of our new house. We will officially close next Friday and receive the keys that day. Lauren leaves for her grad school work in Vermont this Thursday and returns the Friday night that we close (I have power of attorney.) Once we close, we will begin living in the house after taking over out bed and some necessities. Then, that whole week, I am going to work on bringing over more stuff. This will all culminate in a large move on the following Saturday.

Tomorrow, we are ordering a bunch of furniture from Direct Buy including a new King sized mattress and bed. We are probably most excited about this (other than about the new house of course.) We are also getting a new couch, chair and television.

We are super excited...now I just need to pack up all my stuff...
